The Bald Eagle, also known by its scientific name - Haliaeetus leucocephalus (White-Headed Sea Eagle), is North America's only native eagle. The bald eagle's habitat ranges from Northern Canada to Northern Mexico.

The Bald Eagle is classified as a sea eagle. It is most prevalent in Alaska, with over 40,000 bald eagles populating the state.

The Bald Eagle was once listed as an endangered species in 43 of the lower 48 lower states. Since 1995, the bald eagle has made a strong comeback. In 2007 it was removed from all endangered and threatened species lists.

The Bald Eagle embodies both power and grace. and it became the U.S. National Symbol on June 20, 1782 .

The American Bald Eagle appears on official documents, currency, flags, public buildings and other government-related items.  It is used in the military and by government agencies.

The Bald Eagle was celebrated long before then, with Native Americans attaching significant importance to the Bald Eagle's feather. To be given an Eagle feather is the highest honor that can be awarded within indigenous cultures.
